Taekwondo and Energy System
Comparing the three energy systems to Taekwondo, the aerobic system has been proved by the European Journal of Applied Physiology after extensive testing on elite Taekwondo athletes, to be the most suitable energy system to my performance in Taekwondo, but also involving ATP System and The Lactic Acid System. An article from 2011 was the first of its kind to study the energy systems contributions to Taekwondo. The condition of the athletes that was performing was; 10 male taekwondo athletes, National level, age of 21 (approx.), the combat went for three, 2 minute rounds with a 1 minute recovery between each round and each time their heart rate, blood lactate and oxygen consumption was measured and recorded. In the data recorded it is shown that each round the heart rate, blood lactate and oxygen consumption increase. The aerobic system is used when bouncing in combat, but when striking a kick or a punch the body uses 95%-100% intensity to make the hit accurate against the opponent. This means that the Adenosine Triphosphate system is being used to use intensity, than once the body is resting the Adenosine Triphosphate is being restored ready for the next high intensity strike to the opponent.
